What is Advair Diskus?
Advair is a medication used to prevent asthma attacks and to prevent flare up of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It contains two main ingredients, fluticasone and salmeterol. Fluticasone is a steroid that prevents inflammation and salmetorol is a bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles in the airway to improve breathing. When these two are combined, the relieve the symptoms of coughing, shortness of breath, and wheezing much better that either would alone.
The small purple disk, known as the "diskus" the the applicator for the medicine. The disk keeps single doses of the medication in caplet shaped depressions that can be breathed in by peeling away a layer of foil.
